Health and Medical Insurance

There are some very important factors we need to consider when considering Health and Medical Insurance.

First and foremost, should you explore the possibilities; many policies will include your family as a whole. However the downside to such advice is that some employers offer a simple health insurance that just includes the one individual. Unless you are living alone then it is beneficial to pay the small increased premium to get the better family policy.

As with any insurance plan, you’ll pay a monthly fee, or optionally an annual payment. Then, should a situation occur that requires a payment for health related services, the insurance policy will pay out to cover those expenses.

To help understand the areas covered under Health and Medical Insurance, I thought it prudent to check out from the insurance companies themselves, and to determine which categories receive the most claims.

After studying the Health and Medical Insurance annual reports it is clear which are the major categories for payouts:

Dentistry
Opticians
Physiotherapy
Osteopathy
Chiropractic
Acupuncture
Homeopathy
Chiropody

Followed closely by consultations, hospital stays, day care, respite and new babies.

It is to be expected that many people were not aware that these categories would ever be involved with health insurance payouts… Admitting this also, they would have preferred to have accepted a speedier private health care; than the governments own health care system.

Private health care brings forward ‘diagnosis and cure’ from months and years to weeks and days.

Private health care often considered the service for the wealthy; can now be given a new lease of life as often the monthly premiums are smaller than expected.

It is not until you are ill that you can put a price on ‘health care’. When you are healthy the last concern of yours is to pay money for medical insurance. Yet we may squander our money on other items that pale into insignificance when we consider how devastated we’d become when we could have our illness treated and cured within days.
